"I love Jessica Sanchez because she is a Filipino! She may not be the American Idol, for us, she's our World Idol!"
"Charice! What happened to your hair? Yuck! I'm not proud anymore."
"Cheesa Laureta? Who is she? Ahh, from The Voice."
"WOW! Have you heard of Maria Aragon? Her rendition of Lady Gaga's "Born This Way" is fantastic!"
"Arnel Pineda, how come you didn't retweet my post? I hate you now."
"Jessica Sanchez sings US National Anthem? C'mon, wala kang utang na loob. You should sing Lupang Hinirang!"
"60% Chinese. 40% Filipino. What's your mix?"
"Lumalaki na ulo ni PacMan. Dapat dyan matalo sa laban nya against Bradley."
Crab-mentality at its finest. A Filipino trait that should be broken and should not be passed on future generations. The saddest part is, Filipinos bash their idols if their requests are not granted. Some of our fellow Filipinos bash people who became 'mayabang'.
I'm getting fed up with this issues. What is a Filipino? There is no TRUE Filipino. We have different answers, maybe, personal, emotional, or constitutional. But no one will win in this issue. This is a topic that requires decades of observation, ends without an answer. Like religion, when someone brought up this issue, no one will win.
We are not in the Middle/Dark Ages. We're in the modern, digital, liberal age now. Sadly, some Filipinos are left behind looking for other crabs to pinch on.
That's what happens when Nationalism comes in the way. People become purist.
